What is COP30 and where will it be held?

COP30 is the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference.

It will take place at Parque da Cidade in Belém, Brazil — a former airport currently being transformed into a conference venue. The venue will span 500,000 m² and include a gastronomic center and dedicated Green Zone, showcasing local, seasonal and regional cuisine. To facilitate movement around the city, a school holiday will be in place during COP30. Organizers are prioritizing accessibility and safety, with a strong focus on ensuring the event leaves a lasting legacy for the people of Belém beyond the conference itself.

travel

Most international travelers will transfer through a major Brazilian airport before flying to Belém.

Recommended stopover airports include:
São Paulo (GRU)
Brasília (BSB)
Rio de Janeiro (GIG)

The main airport in Belém is Val de Cans International Airport (BEL).

Which is approximately a 10-minute drive from the Blue and Green Zones and 20-minute drive from TED Countdown House.

Transportation

Taxi apps
Ride-hailing services like Uber (particularly “Uber Black” for higher-quality service) and the Brazilian app 99 are widely available and reliable in Belém.
Shuttle system
COP30 will provide official shuttles between key hotels, venues, and the airport.
Public transport
Public and private buses are available, but will likely be crowded during COP30.
Walkability

Some neighborhoods are highly walkable, but we recommend using navigation apps for planning, especially due to the city’s heat and humidity.

Safety and security

Brazil is full of incredible places to explore and has a strong track record of hosting major international events.

While the country is taking significant security measures, taking common-sense precautions is always a good idea.

Here are a few tips to help you stay safe and comfortable.

Avoid unfamiliar areas and walking alone late at night,

especially in isolated or poorly lit areas such as near the docks, the old city center, or side streets.

Stay in reputable accommodations

in well-known neighborhoods, such as Nazaré or Batista Campos, which are generally safer.

Keep valuables
out of sight.

Use a money belt or keep wallets, phones, and jewelry hidden.

Use registered taxis or ride-sharing apps

Rather than hailing cabs on the street.

Learn a few basic Portuguese phrases

English is not widely spoken, and knowing key phrases can be helpful in an emergency or when asking for help.
